An introduction to the German courtly entertainments of the Middle Ages primarily through a reading of the NIBELUNGENLIED, some shorter lyric texts by Walther von der Vogelweide, and a selection from imperial political propaganda. We will stress the relationship between the literature studied and contemporary developments in art, music, philosophy, and politics.
