A critical introduction to major literary figures from late Romanticism to Realism. The texts will first be used to explore various methods of literary interpretation and then set against the background of literary history.

Four short essays (3 pp.), one class report, one research paper (10 pages).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

All primary texts, discussions and papers in German; some secondary literature in English. Students should expect a larger-than-average workload.
