An introduction to the European Romantic period through a
close reading of its visual arts, architecture, music, and
literature. The focus will be on England, the
German-speaking areas, and France, although all readings
will be in English. Students will be asked each week to
write short papers or submit brief written responses to
paintings, buildings, pieces of music, and literary or
critical texts.
