The 17th century in France produced a number of writers and thinkers whose analyses of, and insights into human psychology, social relations, art, philosophy, and religion are the foundations of modern thought. We will read and discuss their most important works, not only for an understanding of LE GRAND SIECLE, but for what value they still have today.

Course conducted in French. Ability to read, write and discuss in French required. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
