Literary and Cultural Theory
ENGL291 SP

A seminar-style course which devotes six or seven weeks to
works which, because of their length or difficulty, are not
ordinarily taught in surveys. The works will deal with
literary theory, cultural theory, or both. Each year the
Department should be consulted in order to find out what
author or work is being intensively covered.
MAJOR READINGS
Will change annually, within the parameters
discussed above.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Students will give a talk in
class, write a short paper based on same, and a slightly
longer paper at the end of the half-course.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This course meets
for the second half of the semester only (it is a
half-credit course). For the first half of the semester,
another course (ENGL246) will meet during the same time
slot. The first is not a prerequisite for the second.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
