Modern Drama II

A survey of European and American drama from 1920 to the
present. Historical overview combined with close textual
analysis. Class will split into small groups for weekly
discussions. Section 2 will be reserved for frosh.
MAJOR READINGS
Plays by Brecht, Pirandello, Lorca, Beckett,
Baraka, Wilson, Williams, Miller, O'Neil, Hellman and
others.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Two papers; midterm; final.

Not open to
students who have taken Modern Drama I (ENGL234)
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
