This lecture course deals with a dozen novels that
seek to illustrate the changes in American fiction,
cultural concerns and attitudes after World War II. The
first half of the course addresses the hegemony of certain
forms and concerns in novels written primarily by white and

devoted to diverse novels that embody and articulate some
of the literary and social forces that have led to the
heterogeneity of contemporary fiction.
