Creative Nonfiction

Students will report and write a range of nonfiction while
examining the influence of fiction techniques on fact
writing and seeking to develop an honest style of reporting
and prose.
MAJOR READINGS
Lillian Ross, Joan Didion, Truman Capote,
Michael Herr, Tobias Wolff, Ian Frazier, Janet Malcolm.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Journalism, writing exercises,
and critical responses to the work of selected writers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Leave a typed,
double-spaced writing sample with the secretary of the
English Department by four o'clock on Monday, January 13,
1997. Include cover page with name, phone number, year, and
probable major.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
