This course will explore the theme of writing women in the literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Our focus will be on the social and historical issues around women who write as well as on the writing or "representation" of women in literature. This course is writing intensive and will require frequent short papers and/or journal responses. Readings will incorporate fiction and criticism.
