History of the Earth
E&ES103 FA
This course is a survey of the geological development of the
Earth and its connection to the origin and evolution of
organisms. Topics include: the formation of the Earth, the
origin of life during the Precambrian, plate tectonic
movements throughout Earth history, invertebrate and
vertebrate extinctions and adaptive radiations, and the
relationship between the evolution of the physical Earth
and its environments and the evolution of the biosphere.

Three exams, one paper.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students must
attend two informal lab sessions to be scheduled on Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday afternoons during the semester and one
Saturday field trip.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
