This course is designed to provide you with an overview of the topics with which modern labor economics is concerned. One goal of the course is to teach you analytical tools which are relevant to a wide range of labor market issues and to show you how to apply them appropriately. Another goal of the course is to improve your writing skills. To that end, written analysis of current and proposed labor market policies will be stressed.

MAJOR READINGS

Textbook/reading packet to be announced.
Additional short newspaper and magazine articles will be
handed out in class. Other readings may be required in
light of your research interests.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Four short writing assignments (3-5 pages), two quizzes, and a final research paper (15-20 pages). Class participation will be considered in your grade.

Please note that if you do not meet one of the prerequisites EXACTLY, then you need a prerequisite override. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
