Introductory Microeconomics

A one-semester introduction to microeconomic analysis and its application to issues of public policy. The course will focus on how resources are allocated in a market economy. Topics covered will include competition, monopoly, income distribution, poverty, resource allocation the economic role of government, and international trade.

MAJOR READINGS

Introductory textbook to be assigned;
readings on reserve.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two progress examinations during the term, a final examination scheduled by the Registrar, and almost weekly problem sets.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Prerequisite: A working knowledge of elementary high school algebra is established by passing the mathematics placement examination given to all freshmen, by completing MATH107 or a higher number course offered by the Wesleyan Mathematics Department, or by obtaining advance placement in Calculus. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
