Introductory Microeconomics

A one-semester introduction to microeconomic analysis and its application to issues of public policy. The course will focus on how resources are allocated in a market economy. Topics covered will include competition, monopoly, income distribution, poverty, resource allocation, the economic role of government, and international trade.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

All sections: problem sets, midterm exam, final exam scheduled by the Registrar. Section 1: two midterms Section 3: two essays

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

A working knowledge of elementary high school algebra as established by passing the mathematics placement examination given to all freshmen, by completing MATH107 or a higher number course offered by the Wesleyan Mathematics Department, or by obtaining advanced placement in calculus. Please note that if you do not match one of the prerequisite listings exactly, then you need a prerequisite override. All sections: Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
