East Asian Studies Sophomore Colloquium

This team-taught seminar, required of all East Asian Studies Majors, aims to introduce prospective majors to a range of the fields and methodologies that comprise East Asian Studies at Wesleyan. The material will be organized into several disciplinary modules, each contributing to a central theme. The modules will vary from year to year; examples are: Art History, Economics, Government, History, Languages and Linguistics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, and Religion.

MAJOR READINGS

Readings will vary from year to year;
primary sources will be emphasized.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

A short paper on each module, with some preliminary drafts and re-writes. A final examination or paper will encourage students to draw connections among the modules.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course is primarily designed for Sophomores who are seriously considering a major in East Asian Studies, and is also open to Junior and Senior East Asian Studies majors who were unable to take the course their Sophomore year. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
