Perspectives on World Dance considers theories and methods
of dance anthropology and takes up the study of selected
world dance forms. Written descriptions and analyses will
be augmented with several live demonstrations, films,
videotapes and musical recordings. Problems of
understanding different aesthetics, defining categories of
dance, and establishing cultural contexts will be
introduced. The examples of dance from different cultures
will be used to explore these issues and to increase
knowledge and understanding of the rich and varied
development of dance forms around the world.
