The Art of the Ballroom

An introduction to 20th century social dance in America
through dancing, reading, lecture and video. Emphasis will
be placed on learning various dances from the Ragtime era to
the present and developing an understanding of their
historical origins, evolution, music and cultural context.

videos, short essays and a research project with final paper
and classroom presentation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students may wish
to purchase jazz or ballroom shoes (approximate cost:
$50-$75).
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
