The purpose of the course is to provide an in depth introduction to the fundamental ideas in the field of computer science: languages, algorithms, and computational models. Topics will include the study of one high level programming language and the functional and imperative models of computation.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One midterm exam, one final exam, and a number of quizzes and programming assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Some previous acquaintance with computer programming is desirable. In addition, some degree of mathematical maturity will be expected. Most students will be concurrently enrolled in a Calculus course.
