Speculative Philosophy of History

An examination of claims that history as a whole has a
meaning. After a contrast and comparison of critical and
speculative philosophy of history, emphasis will fall on
idealist philosophies of history and their critics.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Six short (2-3 page) essays,
at least three of which are to be done before the
midsemester break; two of these to be rewritten and handed
in at the end of the course.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Order of
preference: 1. COL students; 2. history majors; 3.
philosophy majors. Each class will be led by student
discussion leaders and will end with a short evaluation and
self-evaluation session.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
