A close reading of Dante's DIVINE COMEDY in Italian, with
ancillary readings in primary and secondary source materials
for the poem's political and historical, philosophical and
theological background. All discussion in Italian.
MAJOR READINGS
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Five papers: one 1-page, and
four 3-5 pages. All but one to be written in Italian
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students are
required to have a reading knowledge of Italian in at least
the intermediate level; to understand and speak enough
Italian to be able to follow and participate in discussions
of literary topics in Italian; to be able to write essays
in clear, grammatical and expressive Italian.
