Drosophila and nematode developmental genetics are the
primary subject materials for the course. Emphasis is
placed on the role of genetics (gene activity and
regulation) in development as well as the tools of genetics
which facilitate the analysis of development. Topics
include egg polarity, determination, homeotic mutants,
pattern formation and sex determination.
MAJOR READINGS
Review articles and research papers from
the current scientific literature will be assigned and
suggested.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Class participation in
discussion, short written reviews of research papers, major
library paper on a relevant topic of the student's
choosing.
