A genetics course for nonscience majors with an emphasis
on human examples. Medical genetics and genetic technology
are, and will increasingly be, an important part of our
lives (individual, family, business, society). The lectures
will offer a background in genetics (including recombinant
DNA technology). The discussion section will utilize the
genetic information in relation to social, ethical and
economic issues.
MAJOR READINGS
A text (to be announced) will supplement
lecture material.
Additional outside readings will be available on library
reserve.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Four exams (one during finals
period; not comprehensive). Short written assignments on
current issues will be assigned occasionally.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed DROP/ADD form to the
Registrar's Office.
