The fundamentals of astrophysics developed in ASTR531 are
applied to the interstellar medium and the study of the
galaxies. Topics include galactic structure and evolution,
the physics of HI and HII regions, stellar population, star
formation, interstellar dust, extragalactic astronomy, and
observational cosmology.
MAJOR READINGS
One or two textbooks.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Two hour exams, one final
exam, weekly problem sets.
