This course forms a connection between science curriculum and the development of society in general. It covers a large domain of models of the cosmos extending from those of ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and the builders of Stonehenge, through the great advances of Ptolemy and his Greek predecessors, the Medieval decay and the Renaissance into the world of post-Newtonian rigor. The extensive overlap between astronomy and many other human activities provides more than sufficient material for this course.
