The regional and temporal focus of this course is East Asia--China, Japan, and Korea--from the Paleolithic through the Bronze Age. Some of the issues which will be addressed include the invention and development of agriculture and technology, political organization, burial practice, artistic achievement, and religious beliefs. This concise survey is based on archaeological finds; emphasis will be given to the artifacts that represent the artistic achievements of each culture during the successive stages, from the emergence of human beings to the formation of Eastern Asian civilization.
