ARHA227
Imaging Death in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance
ARHA227 SP
Next Offered in 9899 SP
Attempts to confront and to outwit death took many forms
during the late middle ages and the early modern period.
This course will deal both with usual forms of
commemoration, such as the family chapel and the tomb
monument, that were designed to keep the memory of the
deceased alive, and with unusual responses to catastrophic
death like the plague in the formation of such new
iconographies as St. Sebastian.
