This course examines the role of English-speaking Caribbeans
in American national culture. We look at Caribbeans' images
of themselves in literature and popular culture to
understand how they have interrogated and redefined what it
means to be "American" and "African American" in the
twentieth century, and in the context of United States
imperialism.
