Directing I
THEA 281 FA
A basic and rather general practical introduction to the work of the director. Topics to be considered will include the director's analysis of the text, research, work with actors, blocking, rehearsal procedures,
directorial style.
MAJOR READINGS
As appropriate.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Short written assignments and a final project.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This class is a requirement for students who wish to direct for credit or with Theater Department sponsorship. Preference will be given to theater majors. Requirement: Basic production technique, script analysis, one
course in acting. Students
enrolled in the course must agree not to direct elsewhere during the semester. Admission to studio, performance, project and tutorial courses in theater is at the discretion of individual instructors, who take into
account estimated talent, experience an
d the need to form balanced and effective working ensembles.
