Theatre of Anton Chekhov: Research, Analysis, Performance
THEA 214 SP
The course will take a journey to the theatrical world of one of the most famous playwrights of all times Anton Chekhov. Students will read, research, analyze, and perform all Chekhov's plays including dramas, comedies,
and vaudevilles. Videos of world's best performances and movies adapted from his dramas will illustrate different artistic approaches to well-known texts. The course will also examine in detail the historical and
cultural
context of Chekhov's writing, as well as issues of translation and adaptation of his plays for the modern theatre.

A. Chekhov: PLATONOV, IVANOV, THE BEAR, THE PROPOSAL, A JUBILEE, THE SEAGULL, UNCLE VANYA, THE THREE SISTERS, THE CHERRY ORCHARD, THE SWAN SONG
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Quizzes on reading material; research leading into small performances to be prepared outside the class and presented in the class; short written assignments; oral presentations and discussions.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
The attendance of additional film screenings (approximately 5 per semester) will be required. Dates and times of film sessions TBA.
