Literature & Politics in Spanish America: The Argentinean Case
SPAN 270 FA
This course will explore the relationship between literary production and politics in Argentina since Juan Manuel de Rosas' government in the 19th century until the last military dictatorship (1976-1983), which ends with
the MALVINAS War. In particular, through the analysis of the texts of the Romantic Generation and "gauchesca" poetry, as well as 20th century non-fiction books, short stories, novels and movies, this course will examine
the tension between art and political struggle, in the context of the on-going debate regarding the definitions and uses of literature.
