This course is a reading of Dostoevsky's major works in the context of Russian intellectual history and Russian and West European literature of the mid-19th century.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Four to five one-page papers which prepare discussion questions; one longer paper; a mid-term and final exam.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Literature in translation. Critical articles available on reserve will be required reading. Even if you are not pre-enrolled in this class, come to the first class and the instructor will sign your add slip. There is
no need to talk to the instructor
in advance; all students will be admitted.
