Infancy
PSYC 231 SP

This focused inquiry course on psychological development in human infants will include current research findings on neurobiological influences on early development and behavior; babbling and pre-language communication; cognitive development; perceptual abilities; beginnings of emotional development; attachment; foundations of social knowledge in infancy.

MAJOR READINGS

Textbook and journal articles to be assigned.

Weekly readings (journal articles) will be on reserve in the library.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Tests and Assignments

3 multiple choice/short answer tests, and a term paper based on student review of scientific studies on a topic of interest in infant development research.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This is a column 2 Breadth Requirement Course. This course will cover the general period of infancy, as well as those developmental stages which immediately precede and follow it.
