Introductory Physics II
PHYS 112 SP

PHYS111 and PHYS112 are non-calculus courses covering fundamental principles of physics and are targeted specifically toward non-science majors. PHYS112 concentrates on electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and includes an introduction to special relativity and quantum mechanics. Theory building and theory testing will be studied through examples, demonstrations, and problem solving.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course is a continuation of PHYS 111, and will follow a similar format. While a background in calculus is not assumed, each student who enrolls in the course is assumed to be familiar with exponents and powers-of-10 ("scientific") notation, geometry, simple trigonometry, logarithms and proportions. Evening problem-solving help sessions, run by undergraduate TA's, are provided each week; additional help sessions may be organized for some afternoons if demand warrants. Students taking PHYS11 2 may enroll in a section of the associated laboratory PHYS122. Students planning to enter the health professions should be aware that a year of physics WITH LABORATORY is usually required for admission. Consult your major advisor if you are in doubt abo ut similar requirements in your field.
