This course will explore the scope, strength, and nature of moral and political obligations to nonhumans, other humans, and the natural world by examining specific contemporary problems. Topics may include our treatment on nonhuman animals in industrial societies; global environmental problems, such as greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and garbage accumulation; and the distribution of environmental risks and toxic burdens.
