South Indian Voice - Intermediate
MUSC 431 SP

This course may be repeated for credit.

A continued exploration of the song forms begun in Beginning South Indian Voice, with emphasis on the forms varnam and kriti, the cornerstones of the South Indian concert repertoire. Specific exercises will also be given to prepare students for the improvisational forms they will encounter in the advanced class to follow.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Regular practice of lessons, periodic reading assignments, memorization of technical exercises and compositions. Informal presentation of students' work at the conclusion of the course.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Rudimentary sense of pitch and rhythm is required. Attending Indian concerts when possible in and around Middletown. Interested students should sign up on the door of room 313 Music Studios for scheduling the time for the class.
