Theory and Analysis
MUSC 201 FA
Musc201 continues the investigation of common-practice harmony and voice leading begun in musc104 and extends it to standard chromatic harmonies (including augmented sixth chords, and the Neapolitan), exploring these
topics
through model composition and analysis. The course also covers the analysis of standard tonal forms, including sonata form. Skills labs continue to develop sight singing, dictation, and keyboard skills.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Periodic tests, weekly exercises, midterm, and final.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Ability to read music (in all clefs) is essential. Students will be expected to know the major and minor scales and the signatures (circle of fifths); all major and minor intervals and triads. They should have some
familiarity with part-writing rules and
musical form. Mandatory TA sessions on Friday afternoons.
Students are required to attend one hour-long ear-training session per week on Friday between 2:00 and 4 pm.
