Topics in Eukaryotic Genetics: Transcription

This half semester course will follow two principle themes: we will examine the use of genetic methods in current biological research, and apply these methods to address questions about the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes. Our examination of transcriptional regulation will lead us into the related topics of gene organization, chromosome structure, and signal transduction.

MAJOR READINGS

Current research articles and reviews will constitute the majority of the assigned readings.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Each student will make a class presentation. Participation in class discussion will be required of all students. There will be graded homework, and a final take home assignment.

This is a first quarter class. The last class will be October 13.
