After an introduction to the reasons for studying statistics and a review of probability, the course treats the fundamentals of statistics, both theoretical and applied. After a brief view of exploratory data analysis, we turn to the important question of developing suitable statistical models. For the simple models, we treat in detail bootstrapping, estimators and efficiency, the principle of maximum likelihood, least squares estimates, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. The course ends with investigation of the idea of sufficiency and, if time permits, exponential families.
