Jews Under Christian and Muslim Rule During the Middle Ages

The objective of this course is to examine closely Jewish experience during the Middle Ages, both in Christian and Muslim states. Topics studied will include internal cultural, political, and intellectual developments within Jewish communities; sectarianism; Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Muslim interaction. Students will be exposed to a wide range of primary sources. Secondary sources will be used to illustrate current scholarly debates on the topics relevant to the course.
