History of the United States, 1901-1981
HIST 240 SP

This course will explore the history of the United States between 1901 and 1981, using the theme of the emergence, rise, accomplishments, vulnerabilities, and decline of modern liberalism to organize the subject. Many subjects will be discussed including the American economy, party parties, their social bases and ideologies, U.S. foreign policy, Americans¿ experiences in and attitudes toward war, social movements and their impact on politics, federal spending and programs, changing conceptions of the Constitution, intellectual trends, and battles between liberals and conservatives.
