African History before 1870
HIST 217 FA
Adaptation, exchange and mobility characterized African history before the era of formal European colonialism. This course examines these themes across all the regions of the continent including ancient Egypt, the West
African
sahel, the Swahili coast, and southern Africa. We also analyze how source materials shape our understanding of state-building, the slave trade, and the spread of Islam and Christianity.
