The nineteenth century saw the formal establishment of colonial rule in Africa. However, Africans did not blindly succumb to or resist colonial policies. This course examines the complexity of the imposition and dismantling of colonial rule across Africa. We will cover various topics including colonial administration, critiques of colonialism, PanAfricanism, postcolonial conflicts, and democratization.
