Composition and Conversation
FREN 215 FA

This course prepares students for upper-level French courses and for study abroad. It offers students the opportunity to review and strengthen their speaking, writing, and reading abilities in French. Class time is devoted to discussing short reading assignments (short stories, poems, plays, etc.) from the Francophone world (France, Africa, and the Caribbean), and the semester ends with students reading their first novel in French. Daily class discussions, oral presentations, weekly discussions with French teaching assistants, laboratory practice, outside of class grammar review, and compositions are to be expected.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Weekly composition; discussion meetings with native assistants; two hour-exams; final exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students are required to attend one T.A. session a week (one hour). This course is intended for students who have completed FREN112 with a grade of B or better or have placed into FREN215 through the placement test. Students who have not done so should consult with the professor before preregistering. Students who are not accepted through preregistration are strongly encouraged to register during the Drop/Add period.
