Academic Year 2005/2006

Virtual Filmmaking
FILM 440 SP

This course is a hands-on introduction to creating films within the virtual world of 3D graphics. Work begins with the construction of a virtual space and the placement of moving simulated figures within it. Next, cameras are positioned (and moved) to create a sequence of shots to be edited into final form in a digital video program, where students will have the option of adding sound. As technical skills are mastered, we will also consider the aesthetic possiblities of virtual filmmaking, with glances at experimental film, traditional animation, and contemporary digital filmmaking.
