Intermediate Fiction Writing
ENGL 145 FA

This intensive workshop will place an emphasis on the writing (and critiquing) of short fiction. The first few weeks of class will be devoted to reading short stories and discussing fundamentals such as plot, character, and voice. There will be some short take-home exercises. From there on out, the class will be devoted to critiquing student work.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Application material: In an essay of no more than 500 words, explain why you want to take this class, with an emphasis on your relationship to reading and writing. Please avoid cliches and dull writing.

Submit your application by 4 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2005: print your essay and cover sheet (which includes the course number and title, your name, class year, and email address) and deliver by mail or in person to Secretary, English Department, Downey House, Room 204, 294 High Street, Middletown, CT 06459-0100. NO EMAIL OR FAX APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED.
