The English Essay
ENGL 130 FA

This course will focus on the writing of nonfiction and the forms of the English essay. Readings will be drawn from a range of genres, both nonfiction and fiction, including memoirs and profiles, historical and contemporary commentary, short stories and novels.

Short pieces including Orwell, Momaday, Fitzgerald, Walker, Baldwin, Finnegan, Tuchman, Dybek, Coles, Rodriguez, Thuy

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Writing assignments weekly.

To apply for admission, complete the application form available at 279 Court St., Room 102. Deadline to apply: Monday, September 5, 12:00 noon. This course gives preference to students whose primary fluency is in languages other than English or who are fluent in more than one language; it is open to anyone interested in a course with a cross-cultural focus.
