Academic Year 2005/2006
Public Finance (Lower Level)
ECON 222 SP
This course examines the economics of the public sector. It analyzes the role of government in the economy, from fighting inflation and unemployment to the provision of services such as defense, education and health
care.
To fulfill its role the government uses taxes, transfer payments and expenditures. The budget is its blueprint. The questions we address are: Does the role of government differ under democracy, autocracy? Is the size of
government
shaped by political institutions? And what role does the citizen-voter play in the outcome?
