Jazz III
DANC 308 SP
This course may be repeated for credit.
Intermediate/Advanced study of Jazz technique and performance theory. Will explore various contemporary choreographic approaches to the Jazz Dance discipline with an emphasis on performance. Analysis of the evolution of
Jazz Dance and technique through and including Hip-Hop. Discussing: What is the next wave of American Jazz Dance?
MAJOR READINGS
Selected short readings from periodicals. Independent internet study. Viewing of select live and video performances.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One written analysis of a modern jazz dancer/choreographer. One performance thesis as a dancer or choreographer. Participation in Worlds of Dance concert.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Advanced/Intermediate dance experience required. Audition at first class. Please come ready to dance with prepared dance resume. Students should contact the instructor for permission into this course.
