From Africa to Broadway: African Influences in American Jazz Dance

An advanced approach to the Jazz technique. Increased difficulty in the basic jazz component including floor work, lyrical dynamics and complex rhythm cadences. Explores the rebirth of African influence in American jazz dance through the works of Katherine Dunham, Dianne McIntyre (improvisational movement theory), Hip-hop and Urban Tap. In depth discussion: Is everything old new again?

Participation in "Worlds of Dance Concert."

Previous dance experience required. Audition at first class. Please come to first class ready to dance.
