James Baldwin: Race, Sexuality and American Culture

This course explores the ways in which James Baldwin's fiction and essays provide a critique of the politics of race and sexuality in American culture. We will be particularly interested in Baldwin's complex identity as
a civil rights activist, former child preacher, world traveler, and black queer writer.
