Nature and Nurture: The Interplay of Genes and Environment

In this advanced seminar, we consider how genes and environment interact to shape the development and behavior of organisms, including humans. After an initial series of lectures and discussions on classic and current readings, the class will consist of in-depth student presentations and discussion.

MAJOR READINGS

Classic papers by J.B.S. Haldane, R.C. Lewontin and others including contemporary philosophers of biology; current articles from the primary biological and medical literature on topics of students' choice.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Oral presentation and accompanying written assignment.
